Educator Workshops

Chagall and the Artists of the Russian Jewish Theater
Thursday, January 22, 2009, 4:00-7:00 pm
Program Fee: $10 (a light dinner will be served)

Educators will view extraordinary works of art from the special exhibition, Chagall and the Artists of the Russian Jewish Theater, 1919-1949 (about). These works were created for Russian Jewish theater productions in the 1920s and 1930s when innovative visual artists, including Marc Chagall, Natan Altman, and Robert Falk collaborated with avant-garde playwrights, actors, and theatrical producers to create productions with great popular appeal. Participants will tour the galleries with museum educators and view paintings, costume and set designs, posters, photographs, film clips, and theater ephemera. Educators will examine connections to school curricula and learn to use visual art as a point of departure for storytelling in the classroom. Artist and Educator Jeff Hopkins will conduct an interactive visual storytelling workshop, asking participants to help build a collaborative narrative through visual and storytelling arts.

Recommended for elementary, middle, and high school educators
