The New York Jewish Film Festival celebrated its 18th season in January 2009. A total of 32 films from 15 countries add up to an exhilarating worldwide journey. In conjunction with the Museum's exhibition Chagall and the Artists of the Russian Jewish Theater, 1919-1949, NYJFF presented two films starring Solomon Mikhoels (1890-1948), actor, and artistic director of GOSET (Moscow State Yiddish Theater).

Numerous festival presentations have gone on to theatrical release or have been shown on television. Recent examples include News from Home/News from House, Only Human, La Petite Jerusalem, A Cantor's Tale, Lost Embrace, Nina's Tragedies, and Watermarks.
