The era of the Belle Époque, at the crossroads of the 19th and 20th centuries, was noted for the flourishing of theater, fashion, and the decorative arts throughout Europe. In conjunction with the exhibition, Sarah Bernhardt: The Art of High Drama, this panel will consider the role of the decorative and performing arts in the life and career of Sarah Bernhardt. The panelists will focus on key works of art featured in the exhibition to explore the interrelationship between Bernhardt’s life and the Belle Époque era.
