In the years leading up to the centennial, the Museum has made a committed effort to build on areas of strength and to fill in gaps in its collection. Collecting priorities have included paintings and sculpture by nineteenth century artists who benefited from Jewish emancipation and work by Jewish artists whose pivotal involvement in avant-garde and modern art movements helped to shape the School of Paris and the New York School. Also of interest have been mid-twentieth century American abstraction, works that expand the Museum's geographical representation, and Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works by Jewish artists.

In honor of the centennial year, contemporary artists and designers, such as Lyn Godley, Chunghi Choo, and Karim Rashid, have been specially commissioned to create Judaica for the Museum's collection. These innovative objects of Jewish ritual exemplify the Museum's commitment to keeping Judaica accessible and vital to contemporary life.

Among the fine arts highlights are major works by Christian Boltanski, Adolph Gottlieb, Karl Hofer, Anselm Kiefer, Elie Nadelman, Adi Nes, Chana Orloff, Jules Pascin, and Man Ray.

The exhibition includes a wide range of work in various media, including painting, sculpture, photography, works on paper, textiles, metalwork, pottery, and wood.
