Guidelines for Individuals Proposing Works for Acquisition or Exhibition at The Jewish Museum
If you would like to acquaint the staff with your proposal and submit it for either exhibition or acquisition review, please include the following:
- Between six and twenty 35 mm color slides or photos of the work, labeled with the artist\'s name, the works\' titles, medium, support and dimensions
- Resume or Artist\'s vitae
- Exhibition record
- Artist\'s statement (if applicable)
- Self-addressed stamped envelope
- Should you wish to include them, no more than six reviews
Please be specific about your expectations from The Jewish Museum i.e. exhibition opportunities or a gift or purchase of a work. If the latter, please indicate prices. The Jewish Museum\'s collection falls under two main categories: Fine Arts and Judaica. Fine Arts consists primarily of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and mixed media installations. Judaica consists of antiquities, ceremonial objects, textiles, manuscripts, decorative arts, coins and medals.
Your materials will be circulated amongst the curatorial staff and reviewed carefully. The review process generally takes 8-10 weeks.
If there is some interest in your proposal, the Museum will keep a representative sample of the materials submitted for its files. Everything else will be returned.
The Museum will not give a monetary evaluation or appraisal of the work.
