Every fall The Jewish Museum recruits students for the Junior Docent Program,
an exciting experience for teenagers to explore Jewish history and culture
through art and artifacts. As a Junior Docent, you will learn about the Museum\'s
vast collection of Jewish ceremonial art, fine art and artifacts and be trained
to provide interactive gallery tours for families. Junior Docents also assist
with a variety of family programming including drop-in arts and crafts in the
Activity Center, storytime sessions and family sketching activities in the galleries.
Junior Docent responsibilities occur on Sundays. A five-week training
program begins on consecutive Sundays beginning in November, 2003.
Participants learn unique ways to interact with family audiences, how to teach
using objects, and gain an understanding of both the permanent collection and
special exhibitions. After completing the training program, Junior Docents are
required to commit to at least one Sunday per month for three hours from December,
2003 through May, 2004.
Become a Junior Docent and take pride in communicating knowledge about your
Jewish identity, while making new friends from a variety of backgrounds and
fulfilling your community service hours or internship requirements.
