| Arthur Leipzig took this picture of two girls drinking sodas at Coney Island's Steeplechase, an enclosed park developed in 1895 that included rides such as the Human Roulette Wheel, the Barrel of Love, and the Steeplechase, a mechanical horse race. The park burned down in 1907 and was rebuilt to include The Pavilion of Fun that attracted visitors until it closed in 1964. In this optimistic image, the sparkle of the lights of the amusement park seem almost commensurate with the twinkle in the eyes of the young women. |
