More information

A profile miniature of a member of the Rivera, a distinguished Sephardic family of Newport, Rhode Island.

Little is known of Aaron Rodriguez Rivera (1793-1838). He lived in Wilmington, North Carolina, for most of his adult life. Descended from Abraham Rodriguez de Rivera (d. 1765) who had fled the Portuguese Inquisition and founded families in New York and Newport, he was named for his maternal grandfather, the wealthy Newport merchant and trader, Aaron Lopez.
