Action/Abstraction Family Day


Delight in a fun-filled afternoon of art, music, and more in celebration of Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning, and American Art, 1940-1976.

Drop-in Art Project: 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Create your own abstract work of art inspired by the great painters from the exhibition: Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning, and American Art, 1940-1976. Use a variety of papers and textures to form a unique work of mixed-media collage which explores color, shape, and line in a bold and expressive way!

Family Sculpture Project: 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Collaborate on a large sculpture inspired by art of such sculptors as David Smith and more using cardboard, wire, string, and metallic textures. Watch this work of art transform as the day goes on!

Action/Abstraction Exploration Studio: 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Drip, stroke, dab, and roll…get in touch with your expressive side in our open painting studio on the 4th floor of the museum. Use rollers, brushes, sponges and found objects to crearte an abstract painting exploring some of the same processes of these masterful painters.

The Dream Jam Band: 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm
Hear the groovy upbeat sounds of the Dream Jam Band whose influences range from the Beatles to Woodie Guthrie during the same era of the painters on view. Dance to their quirky and playful tunes that charm all ages.

Pick up a family guide and embark on a journey of the special exhibition Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning, and American Art, 1940-1976. Discover the great painters who changed the history of art.
