William Steig Storybook Family Day

Join us for a fun-filled afternoon in celebration of From The New Yorker to Shrek: The Art of William Steig.

12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
DROP-IN ART WORKSHOP

Children can design one-of-a-kind illustrated books using colored pencils, markers, and collage paper; and create magical characters and animal creatures for their stories.

12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
COLLABORATIVE MURAL PROJECT

Professional illustrator Jeff Hopkins will help kids draw characters inspired by From The New Yorker to Shrek: The Art of William Steig on a larger-than-life storybook page, encouraging them to bring new characters into the story.

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
MEET DREAMWORKS’ SHREK

Children can meet and greet Shrek in person.

2:00 pm - 2:45 pm
PERFORMANCE: PRINCESS KATIE AND RACER STEVE

Families can dance to the hip sounds of Princess Katie and Racer Steve. Like characters from a storybook coming-to-life, this eclectic bunch of musicians includes a princess, a racecar driver, a chef and a judo champ. With a style that ranges from country to reggae to pop-rock, this group will entertain with skits and songs about being a kid that will get the whole family groovin'.

Plus FREE Shrek dvds to the first 250 families.

Age 3 and up

The Family Day is made possible by the Office of Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer funded under contract with the New York City Department for the Aging. Special thanks to Dreamworks Animation.
